Improved fire, building and life safety in the NW region by working with state and local authorities to promote NFPA services and the adoption and use of NFPA codes and standards in nine states: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming. Promote and coordinate major organizational advocacy efforts in the region and support research, public education and various other activities related to fire safety.

Played a key role in senior management of the organization and was responsible for staff and budget development for the department.

Executive level chief officer for the fire and EMS department of the City of Roanoke, charged with protecting a city of approximately 100,000 and regional airport. Directed all functions of the Training Division and Technical Rescue program. As a member of the executive staff, contributed to all aspects of department’s administration, budget and decision-making. Developed key external organizational and individual relationships.

Coordinated and administered EMS and related training to all City public safety departments. Worked with City’s Emergency Manager and other top-level public administrators on local and regional emergency management planning and training.

Provided all aspects of emergency response to a diverse community as a crewmember on engines, ladder trucks and medic units.
