I recently transferred to the University of Texas at Arlington and am currently studying psychology and criminal justice. I am seeking a 2023 internship. Over the years I have noticed a decline in numerous aspects such as social and coping skills as well as basic respect. I am both saddened and fascinated when I hear of mass shootings, hate crimes, and other heinous acts of violence. It is often found that the perpetrator has endured some sort of trauma during their development, and I wonder, what causes one child to inflict pain on others and another to use their trauma as a catalyst for growth? Children are not growing up in the same environments as they did in the days of Sigmund Freud or even the last couple of years, so my mission is to determine what these troubled adolescents need to steer them away from the criminal justice system and toward a life they can be proud of?
