Chronic Dialysis Nursing is my specialty, past acute experience . Current Charge Nurse with well known company. Being fascinated with all things medical, at the age of eighteen I started within the medical as a CNA. Wanting to be more hands on I obtained a Dialysis and Phlebotomy Certification. Now realizing I was a knowledge seeker craving more, I enrolled at Delgado Westbank majoring in Nursing. Dialysis specialty is not for everyone, you love it or hate it. The first visual introduction to dialysis was at the age of ten when I accompanied my grandmother to her dialysis treatment. Everyone was so busily hurried but still attentive to her needs, I did not understand then the grave importance. I am now in a position to bestow upon my patients the respect, dignity, and attention that was given to my grandmother. My second introduction into the speciality of dialysis was April of 2000, as a dialysis technician. Working both chronic and acute units as a I can never favor one over the other. In most cases I am the first to dialyze them in the hospital and educate them about dialysis. Because I am affiliated with the chronic unit in the area I continue to treat them even beyond the walls of the hospital. I love that I will see my patients improve from beginning to end. I take pride in getting to know my patients. Because I am with them so often I am able to foresee when things are not going well with them during their treatment. Never placing a ceiling on my knowledge search I am currently working on my BSN at William Carey University.
