Responsible for assisting in applying splints, removal of casts, braces; must also work with and instruct patients in caring for their injuries, understand and adjust traction equipment, and be able to adjust crutches, walkers and other aides. Apply the use of infection control protocols, and sterilization . Take vital signs every two to four hours, obtain blood glucose readings, assist patient with activities of daily living requiring direct patient care in hygiene, dressing, assist to restroom and bathing needs, and assist with changing wound dressings. Apply wound-vacuum machine on extensive to severe wounds with R.N. present. Must posses good communication skills in working closely with medical staff and patients, and be able to deliver necessary information while comforting patients' in distress. Chart A.D.L.'s Q-4hrs, V/S Q-4 hrs, Glucose readings/results Q-4 hrs and lab sample results. Make myself available at nursing station for secretarial assistance with phone calls, any questions or concerns from family or visitors, and help complete charts on patients'.
