About Crystal Barton
I've always loved to play around with computers since I was a young teenager and my dad bought our family's first computer. I would play games and go on BBSes, but I never thought about a career with computers until I took "Math/Computer Science I" in high school. I enrolled because I was good at math, but I stayed because I loved Computer Science and I was good at it too! Since then, I have worked with computers as a technician, a Windows developer, and a web developer at universities, and a software engineer at one of the biggest technology companies in the world.Over the past three years, I have been working at Amazon as a Software Development Engineer (SDE). After two years at the company, I was promoted to SDE II due to my contributions to the team and the completion of key components needed to complete a major project. Before Amazon, I was a Windows and web developer at UNC Charlotte where I completed my Master's degree while working full-time. My time in these positions has beneficial in the development of many professional qualities and skills:- I have experience with service design and development, web design and development, server administration, and Windows development.- I love the creation of new projects, especially those that have a problem to solve or use new technologies.- I have the ability to adapt to using new technologies, skills. and techniques in order to complete projects on time.- During design and implementation, I keep in mind how the final product will be used by others and determine if the current approach is the best.- As much as I love the big, flashy ideas, I will be the first to point out when those ideas are impractical.- When repetitive problems arise, I'm proactive in identifying the root cause and work on a solution to reduce future workload.- I always strive to maintain high standards and implement best practices, such as properly written unit and integration tests, informative JavaDocs, proper dependency injection and using good object-oriented design principles.- I enjoy working and teaching others but also thrive when working alone.I'm currently seeking employment in the field of software engineering or web development.
