Information System Specialist
CurrentThe Information Systems Specialist supports computer hardware, software, and peripherals including: PCs, laptops, tablets, printers, mobile phones, and VoIP desk phones. Technical support may be delivered both over the phone through remote desktop software and in person through field visits to any one of our 43 citywide locations. In addition to desktop support, typical duties include:Gather and analyze information regarding departmental computer hardware, peripheral equipment and software requirements and installs or upgrades single PC or network systems to fulfill these needs; makes routine hardware upgrade and repairs, refers other repair work to vendors Work with department staff to assess their needs and to develop word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Internet and other applications specific to their useConfigure commercial software to meet specific defined needs; install software and instruct departmental staff in the use of such applications; provide as a liaison between software and hardware vendors and department user personnel for specialized applicationsAssist department staff in implementing new or upgraded programs and applicationsTroubleshoot hardware problems and correct or calls appropriate service organizations Confer with department management staff regarding assigned program areasMaintain records and prepare periodic and special reports of work performedAnalyze, diagnose, and correct routine network problemsResolve routine user "how to" problems with hardware and software, either in person, phone, or e-mail
