Responsible for processing all release of information (ROI) specifically medical record requests in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. At all times, I safeguard and protect the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy and HIPAA regulations.

My duties included:•Shadowed employees in the Health Information Systems (HIS) Department to observe daily operations.•Attended meetings pertaining to HIS, including Revenue Cycle, 3M, EPIC, Touchbase, and ICD-10, as well as with Directors of Legal, Case Management, Performance Improvement, Revenue Cycle, and Patient Accounts.•Validated an average of 350 medical charts daily to ensure accuracy and integrity of Spacelab’s telemetry monitor strips in EPIC system. •Reviewed and Updated 24 existing coding procedures to ensure compliance with institutional/regulatory requirements.•Updated and redesigned a dual-coding Excel spreadsheet which included mapping ICD-9 diagnoses and procedures to ICD-10, for future education purposes. •Created Coder Productivity reports utilizing data from EPIC-generated reports. Utilized Excel to create spreadsheets and graphs representing inpatient, outpatient, and individual coder’s productivity to be used as baseline data for pre-Computer Assisted Coding (CAC), during CAC, and post-CAC implementation.

I was able to utilize my knowledge from what I learned in class and apply it to an actually hands on experience. Most of my time at Georgia War was spent working with the Medical Record and ICD-9 to ICD-10 Coding Crosswalk. My duties included:•Prepped, merged and purged medical records for storage according to guidelines set forth by the facility.•Updated the paper-based individual patient problem lists from ICD-9 to ICD-10 and entered the information in to the electronic health record system.
