The plan was to find a living that would allow me to have a family, enjoy what I do and live outside the corporate bustle. No tight skirts, no high heels. A couple of years at PriceWaterhouse at the start of my career confirmed to me that Accounting wasn't for me. I had always been drawn to Marketing, especially Advertising and specifically, Copywriting. I just didn't know there was a profession called Copywriting. Seeing many folks realise their career misfit late, I knew it was then or never. Switching is never easy for one reason only: fear. But all I needed was my parents' blessing. My father did ask, "What's a copywriter?" LOL. I still get asked today! I switched in my mid-20s. Cut my teeth at advertising agencies in KL and followed my heart to Singapore to be with the man I love and eventually married. There were a couple of career detours. But my bosses understood the value of copywriting, and that buoyed my rise to Head of Marcoms and Creative Services. My 'detours' from copywriting were actually an education for the future me, on the client-side of the business - invaluable. After a few years, it was time to get back on plan - my ideal living, my family dream. I left the safety of the corporate world with the understanding and support of my husband and registered WRITERS4HIRE. Within two weeks, we discovered we were pregnant with our second boy. Productive! The next decade-plus were a blur - mother, wife, daughter-in-law, parent, and business owner. Former colleagues and bosses have been supportive from the start. In a blink, WRITERS4HIRE is in its 20s. We are still going, still evolving with the times. With purpose, I have kept it small and light by working with a select group of clients and partners who believe in us and what we do. And that has allowed me the life i envisioned and the career of my dreams.
