I caught fire doing infrastructure resiliency.Studying computer science always felt like a good fit for me. However, I had trouble getting excited about the content taught, which was often more theoretical in nature. So I looked elsewhere and applied for an internship in the corporate environment. And that’s when it happened: the spark I was missing ignited when I sat down to analyze a distributed system problem. What happens if I press the red delete button for a service? What if part of the network is down? How does the software handle it?Suddenly, thinking about system up-time and applying some of that analytical compute-sciency thinking tooptimize got a lot more exciting and fun. Since then, I can't get enough. I enjoy solving technical problems, researching and diving into new subjects, and learning about new technologies. Luckily this spark also transferred to things like software architecture, networks, cloud, and even back to my studies.I would describe myself as a pragmatic, always ready-to-help, straight-to-the-point kind of guy. Besidesanalytical thinking, my strengths include handling stressful situations well and the ability to focus on what is most important. My biggest weaknesses are a lack of experience and a tendency toward risk aversion. I try to combat this by engaging in open discussions with team members and incorporating feedback before making decisions, to strike a balance between avoiding unnecessary hazards and calculated risk-taking.Here is how I would describe my dream job: Building the software/infrastructure things of tomorrow, with an eye on operations and maintainability.
