Dr. Matta's main interest is cartilage research in high density chondrifying cultures (primary avian and murine models and chondrifying mesenchymal cell lines). Dr. Matta is also trained in single cell calcium imaging using fluorescent techniques (confocal and fluorescent microscopy). His research is also focussed on ion channel expression and function in chondrocytes and chondroprogenitors. Dr. Matta has made significant contributions in exploring the surfaceome of chondrogenic cells. He is also interested in the circadian molecular clock in chondrogenic cells.Methods: cell and tissue culturing techniques (primary cell cultures and cell lines–isolation of mature and differentiating chondrocytes); DNA and RNA isolation; qRT-PCR reactions; siRNA; immunoblot analysis; immunocyto- and immunohistochemical reactions; conventional histological staining methods; cellular viability and proliferation assays; fluorescent Ca2+ imaging; confocal microscopy; transient transfection and gene expression experiments (overexpression, knockdown); surfaceome analysis; RNASeq data analysisTeaching Responsibilities:I am a laboratory instructor with 20 years of experience in Human Gross Anatomy and Histology for general medical and dentistry students. I am well trained in conducting laboratory practicals (cadaver dissection) and seminars. I am delivering anatomy, histology and embryology lectures to Pharmacy and Physiotherapy students, and the Basic Medical Course students. Furthermore, I am the Representative of Student’s Research Society at the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology.
