For 25 years, Chris Sautter has advised and produced media for Democratic candidates from coast-to-coast, including writing and producing President Barack Obama's first campaign ads (see David Remnick's "The Bridge"). Sautter has also directed and produced two award-winning feature-length documentary films and several short films. "The King of Steeltown: Hardball Politics in the Heartland" (2001) about old-style machine politics won "Best Political Documentary" at the New York International Independent Film Festival. "So Glad I Made It" (2004) about a struggling singer songwriter living on the margins of the music business (anticipating the Jeff Bridges character in "Crazy Heart") won numerous top film festival awards and was named one of the top Rock Documentaries by GRAMMY Magazine. In addition, Sautter is one of the nation's top recount lawyers (having served as a top lawyer for Al Gore in 2000 and Al Franken in 2008) and is co-author of "The Recount Primer" (1994), the definitive guide to election disputes. Jay Weiner, author of "This Is Not Florida: How Al Franken Won the Minnesota Senate Recount" pegged him "unquestionably the most experienced recount lawyer in the country." Sautter is also an Adjunct Professor at American University where he teaches election law and a course entitled "The Recount Process." Sautter contributed a chapter entitled "Election Law Is the New Rock & Roll" to the book "Campaigns & Elections American Style" (2009) by American University Professors James Thurber and Candice Nelson.

I opened the first Washington, DC office for David Axelrod's Chicago-based political media firm in April, 1988. I left Axelrod in late 1991 to open my own firm. Our clients included Cleveland Mayor Michael White, Ohio Attorney General Lee Fisher (later Ohio Lt. Governor), Indiana Congressman Frank McCloskey, and Indiana Congresswoman Jill Long.

Oversaw litigation in housing and welfare law and prisoner's rights. Lead attorney in case to establish warranty of habitability for tenants in rental housing in Indiana. Won landmark right-to-counsel case. Argued cases in Indiana Court of Appeals and Supreme Court and US Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit.
