Winter Quarter 2016: The goal of this research was to determine the specifications required for which in-house manufactured fused deposited modeling(FDM) filament must satisfy in order to consistently print dimensionally accurate parts using the department’s FDM 3D printers.Spring Quarter 2016: Improved the WWU Engineering Department’s extruder to allow for use of extremely high processing temperature polymers to be manufactured. In order to accomplish this task, an additional cooling process was required to cool extrudate before it enters the cooling bath. This project saved the department approximately $40,000 by making improvements with equivalent success as would be obtained by purchasing expensive industrial equipment
