I supported investigators in a variety of preclinical development areas and contributed to nearly a dozen successful regulatory submissions cleared by the FDA. I served as the Study Director for the IND-enabling pharm/tox work such as in vivo toxicity studies and co-authored study reports and IND Applications. I also served as the co-PI on our clinical biospecimen protocol, which allowed us to collaboratively use genomic patient data and clinical specimens to identify new biomarkers and molecular targets and then rapidly translate those findings through further development in our preclinical development laboratory.In 2013 I also began establishing a new facility for conducting GLP-compliant toxicity studies, and in this capacity I was responsible for GLP compliance and interaction with the FDA, assay/instrument validation, training facility personnel, and analysis and reporting of nonclinical study data.

In the Tabas laboratory of the Department of Medicine, my work identified a novel signaling pathway of cell death, which has important implications in a variety of disease areas, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. As a project leader in the lab, I designed research experiments and protocols, managed a research team, generated and analyzed data, and wrote reports, manuscripts, and grants. I presented my work at several meetings within and outside the university, and I co-authored manuscripts in the Journal of Cell Biology and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. I was also awarded a Translational Cardiovascular Research Fellowship and won second prize for my presentation at the Physiology Department retreat (2011).

Entegrion is a biotech company focused on expanding the therapeutic potential of the human blood supply. As a member of the development team, I designed and tested prototypes of trauma bandages which limit blood loss, now marketed as Stasilon™ and currently used to control life-threatening bleeding by the military, EMS providers, and surgeons.

As an EMT I provided patient care for a variety of different emergencies. I also provided training to new EMTs.

My doctoral work in the laboratory of Thomas Fischer focused on platelets, inflammation, and wound healing. This work led to 2 reports of invention based on new technologies designed to improve inflammatory responses and wound healing in a broad spectrum of patients.

I was the project leader for studying antiviral drug delivery in blood cells, during which I discovered novel interactions between nanoparticles and blood platelets (patent pending). I also managed sponsored research agreements with industry collaborators, submitted and maintained IRB protocols, helped establish laboratory facilities and trained personnel in obtaining patient consent and blood samples.
