Hello! I am Chloe, an M.Sc student currently working under Dr. Calvin Yip at the University of British Columbia. My project focuses on unravelling the molecular details of the autophagosome-lysosome fusion step of autophagy, using a combination of biochemical, structural, and cell-based techniques to achieve this.In the past, I worked in the labs of Drs. Patrick Keeling and Brett Finlay, studying single-celled protazoans and the bacterial Type 6 Secretion System, respectively. These experiences have cultivated my broad interest in diverse disciplines of life science research, especially in areas with practical applications in environmental and medical spheres. Furthermore, I am passionate about enhancing the ways that we communicate science, both within the research community and with the general public. - Independently performed transmission electron microscopy on Apicomplexan protozoa, yielding high-quality images for morphological analysis of membrane structures in an evolutionary context.- Assembled genomes of the Ulvophyte algae Acetabularia, in order to shed light on its genome content. - Constructed single- and multi-gene trees to explore the phylogenetic position of Acetabularia and other newly-isolated Ulvophytes within the Ulvophyceae. - Presented findings at the Western Canada Protist Conference (2022).
