Most of my experiences have been on Geotechnical engineering, ranging from engineering consulting, contracting, research and teaching. I have about 8 years of experience (in UK and Norway) including 3 years PhD research work at the University of Cambridge, UK. Major fields of work relate to:• Site characterisation and derivation of soil parameters for geotechnical engineering design.• Foundation design.• Slope stability analyses and slope failure investigation.• Tunnelling and the associated building damage assessment.• Temperature effects on laboratory measured soil strength.• Centrifuge modelling of submarine landslide flows.Chang Shin obtained his BEng degree in Civil Engineering from the Universiti of Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and pursued his postgraduate studies at Imperial College London, UK where he obtained his MSc in Soil Mechanics and subsequently a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK. I began my career as a Project Engineer in a geotechnical specialist contracting firm in Malaysia before moving on to consultancy in G&P Geotechnics, a geotechnical consulting firm in Malaysia as a Geotechnical Engineer. Later joined the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) as a Guest Researcher, before pursuing for a PhD at Cambridge and then back to NGI as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. Currently joins rank as Associate Director in G&P Professionals in Malaysia. A member (FIEM, MIEAust) of both the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and the Institution of Engineers Australia (EA). Registered as a Professional Engineer (PEng) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with the Institution of Engineers Australia, and also International Professional Engineer (IntPE, MY) with the EMF International Professional Engineer Register and APEC Engineer (APEC Eng) with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Engineer Register, and ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE).Currently served as the Chairman of the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD) of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) (2024/2025), and the Deputy President of the Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS) (2024/2025). Currently also serving as an Adjunct Lecturer as well as am Industrial Academic Panel at the Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and appointed as a Board Member of the Industrial Advisory Board of the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) since 2018.
