IT professional walking the often odd line between the great wilderness and the technological jungle.My love for technology began at a young age when my family bought a used IBM PS/2 with a 56k modem and a copy of Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? Soon the computer died and my family could not afford a replacement so I improvised by digging through spring cleaning piles for parts. I eventually cobbled enough functional pieces together to have a working computer and ever since have been infatuated with technology.As my interest in technology is not limited to a specific area I have transitioned easily between many different roles and have a greater understanding of how they relate to each other.With Actionlink I learned how to simplify and distill what I knew about technology in a way that was easy to explain to customers and teach to employees. This experience helped me at Alchemy as I wrote MapReduce jobs on a cluster I designed and then taught others how to do the same. Juggling many unique solar systems at SolarUniverse turned into juggling lots of different projects at my position at OneStop; where I managed an incredible team installing custom systems all over California’s central valley and bay area. While at OneStop I worked in commercial, industrial, educational, and government institutions and learned to adapt to each client’s unique needs.In 2015 I decided I needed some adventure so I packed my bags, Montana bound, for the challenge of applying my IT skills in the remote wilderness of Glacier National Park. Going from connecting 10Gbps fiber networks in a bay area MDF to pushing 15Mbps VDSL on 40+ year old direct burial phone lines to remote buildings in East Glacier Village was my “We’re not in Kansas anymore” moment. Being so far removed from technology centers has a whole new set of challenges; however I am enjoying the opportunity to learn new skills and apply my existing knowledge in new ways in the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.
