Creative ideas and innovative technology drive exploration of the Moon, Mars, and worlds beyond Earth. NASA’s Engineering Directorates develop transformative space technologies and scientific instruments to enable future missions of exploration and discovery. My role is to lead, coordinate, and empower engineers, scientists, and organizations to bring their ideas to reality in pursuit of space exploration.

A Federal Project Director (FPD, is ultimately responsible to the Program Secretarial Officer for project execution; and is responsible for the management of services provided to DOE or NNSA on a specific project, beginning at the start of design and continuing through the completion, planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and reporting on the status of the project. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining the project management plans; managing project resources, establishing and implementing management systems, including performance measurement systems; and approving and implementing changes to project baselines.

The Mission Design Division starts projects with a clean sheet and delivers detailed spacecraft designs and instruments to meet mission requirements. It innovates to provide spacecraft mission design capabilities and complete mission implementation for projects ranging in size from nanosatellites (5-250 kg) to deep space Class B (1200 kg) missions. Specific capabilities include:New Engineering Concepts Conceptual Mission Design Orbital Debris Research Satellite Swarm Mission Research Spacecraft and Payload Design Analysis and Fabrication Project Management and Systems Engineering System Assembly, Test, and Integration Mission Operations

A NASA Project Manager has absolute technical and programmatic responsibility for developing, testing, executing, and delivering space flight missions payloads and spacecraft.

The Mission Design Division provides spacecraft mission design capabilities and complete mission implementation for projects ranging in size from nanosatellites (5-250 kg) to deep space Class B (1200 kg) missions. Specific capabilities include: Conceptual Mission Design Spacecraft and Payload Design Analysis and Fabrication Project Management and Systems Engineering System Assembly, Test and Integration Mission Operations

Ames Space Biology Projects primarily support animal and cell biology research, including spaceflight and ground-based studies. Space Biology manages NASA grant solicitations, manages Space Biology grants, and performs the payload development and operations for space biology experiments on the ISS and other free-flyer platforms. Space Biology is responsible for managing approximately 50 grants across the Nation and from 6-to 9 spaceflight experiments annually with about 20 individual simultaneous projects. The Space Biology Manager oversees the various projects, as a program office would, managing the budget, schedule, contracts, grants, and status of all ongoing projects under the office. The Space Biology Manager reports to NASA HQ on all aspects of each research mission.

The principal mission of the Space Biosciences Research Branch is to advance space exploration by achieving new scientific discoveries and technological developments in the biological sciences. Relevant research and development objectives of the branch include radiation detection and biology, fundamental space biology, and the development of countermeasures to preserve human health in space. Teams of researchers are organized around scientific disciplines critical to NASA's bioscience missions.
