I lead AI and Advanced Services for Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation division. We are responsible for AI strategy, research, architecture, and development of VCF’s AI IaaS services.

Led the creation and execution of the VMware AI strategy, resulting in the Private AI market definition, Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA, Private AI with Intel, Private AI with IBM, and dozens of additional ecosystem partners.Co-led the techincal due diligence for the VMware-Broadcom merger.

The Research and Innovation organization is comprised of our Research, Incubation, and Advanced Development (xLabs) functions, as well as our Open Source Program Office, Field CTOs and Government Outreach. In the past two years, we have successfully transferred over 30 projects into product or strategic open source project. Notable technology transfers included: SplinterDB in the vSAN 8 Express Storage Architecture, Corfu in NSX and DDlog in Skyline, ESXi for Monterey, Digital Substation virtualization, Workspace ONE XR Hub, Confidential Computing Certifier Framework, cryptographic agility service mesh, federated machine learning, GitOps-managed edge compute, and the launch and success of wasmlabs. The team has filed 240 invention disclosures from 2021-2023 and have built a strong internal and external reputation for our ability to invent disruptive technologies and to scope projects down to products and services that can be sold by VMware's lines of business.

Building the Advanced Technology Group has been one of the most satisfying times of my career. The team provides advanced development in support products and major product capabilities on a sub two year time horizon. New technologies are being developed and transferred to VMware's R&D BUs on a quarterly basis in areas such as edge computing, modern apps, machine learning, security, and multi-cloud computing.

While VP & CTO, Global Field and Industry, I had the following responsibilities: • In cooperation with the OCTO Research and Innovation teams, act as custodian of OCTO’s vision and its projection into the field and our customers.• Develop, seed, and nurture new innovations and strategic technology partnerships.• Drive the execution and communication of OCTO’s vision, internally and externally.• Represent VMware’s technical vision (including OCTO’s over the horizon vision) to customers, partners and analysts.• Own and manage the field CTO activities and drive the 140+ member CTO Ambassador (CTOA) program• Lead a team of CTOs and senior technologists focused on a variety of technical areas, inclusive of Cloud, Edge, IoT, NFV, server platforms, and HPC

Served as a partner and trusted adviser to VMware's customers in the Americas, and also collaborated with the IT and business community at large on cloud, mobile, virtualization and data center modernization strategies. I worked with my peers in the Office of the CTO and VMware's product teams to ensure that VMware's future innovations align with essential market needs.

As a Research Vice President for Gartner's Technical Professionals service, managed the data center and private cloud research agenda which is comprised of a team of ten analysts. Responsible for the strategic direction and technical accuracy of the team's collective research. My primary research focus areas at Gartner were private cloud computing as well as server and client virtualization. I also dabble in data center modernization, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery. Had direct engagements (via phone or on-site) with more than 200 end user organizations annually. Those engagements mostly consisted of advising CIOs, architects, and directors on private and hybrid cloud computing, server virtualization, and desktop transformation strategies. I often helped clients determine what specific technical requirements will meet their business needs and help them select and design solutions. During my tenure at Gartner, I had also been a sought after adviser by the leading vendors in the private cloud, server virtualization, desktop virtualization, mobile, storage, backup, and enterprise management markets. My advisory work with product managers had resulted in numerous product roadmap decisions and ideas for new products. I had also advised several large enterprise software CEOs on topics ranging from product and go-to-market strategy as well as influenced several mergers and acquisitions.

I was the first analyst hired by Burton Group in 2006 to form a new Data Center Strategies team. At Burton Group, I was tasked with extending the Burton Group brand to be recognized as a thought leader in the x86 virtualization market. In less than three years, the Data Center Strategies team had several hundred active clients mostly comprised of Global 2000 organizations. My work at Burton Group resulted in an evaluation criteria that compared x86 server virtualization solutions; that allowed Burton Group to lead the IT research industry with the first independent competitive analysis of all major x86 virtualization vendors. Beyond writing research, my role at Burton Group involved offering advisory services to IT architects and directors responsible for building server virtualization architectures ranging from hundreds to more than one hundred thousand VMs globally.

I was hired in 2003 to develop the 300 and 400 level courses for ECPI's regionally accredited bachelor of science degree program. Courses that I developed included advanced networking, network security, network troubleshooting, and project management. For my efforts, I was named the 2004 Virginia Career College Association Professor of the Year. As my consulting business grew, I continued working with ECPI by serving as the CIS Department Head for the online campus. In that role, I managed a team of five full-time instructors and seven adjuncts. I was responsible for course evolution, textbook selection, and instructor mentoring. The flexible schedule allowed me to accelerate my consulting work while still actively contributing to higher education - which has always been an inner calling.

As an independent consultant, I worked with mid-sized to large enterprise organizations on virtualization architecture and implementation, backup and recovery strategy, and high availability. I also published dozens of articles on emerging virtualization architectures and best practices and spoke at dozens of industry events.

At Brookdale I taught evening 200-level computer science classes on topics such as server administration and networking.

I was hired by CommVault to help build a new global training department from the ground up. During my tenure, I wrote the very first CommVault Galaxy training courseware and also developed the first CommVault e-learning software that was sold to customers in 2003. I led the first use of VMware technologies inside CommVault in 2000 and beginning in 2001 I worked with the very first VMware ESX 1.0 adopters on storage and backup architectures for their server virtualization environments. That effort resulted in the successful rollout of a LAN-free backup solution for ESX 1.0 customers in 2002, long before such a solution was fully supported by VMware.Later in my CommVault career I took on additional roles that included assisting field SEs when needed, including traveling to customer sites to resolve urgent problems such as Microsoft Exchange cluster outages. I also worked with senior marketing VPs to develop company and competitive PowerPoint presentations.

I taught advanced semiconductor theory, digital electronics, telecommunications, and computer networking courses. I was also responsible for mentoring new instructors. I was named Instructor of the Month five times.

I was hired to build and run an ATM service department that was responsible for ATM installation and service in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. I trained and managed two other technicians and oversaw growth from less than ten to more than one hundred clients in less than a year.

Performed intermediate-level avionics work on the following military aircraft: F-18 Super Hornet, EA6B Prowler, P-3, and C-130. I managed an avionics shop that specialized in power generation and associated management systems and oversaw repairs down to component-level. I engineered and constructed seven new pieces of test equipment that saved the US Marines and Navy an estimated $1M in annual repair costs by eliminating the need for testing and remediation by outside contractors. That work earned me the Navy Achievement Medal and a Blue Jacket of the Quarter award - a distinction that was previously only reserved for Navy personnel. I also provided endpoint support for Navy and Marine NALCOMIS terminals, which started my career in IT.
