Thesis topic: Extension and evaluation of routing with hints for NetInf Information-Centric NetworkingInformation-centric networking (ICN) is an alternative approach to future networking, which aims at solving challenges such as efficient content distribution and mobility. Named data objects is the main information-centric abstraction, as compared to named hosts of the current host-centric networks. Communication consists of senders publishing the named data objects and receivers requesting them from the network. Network of Information (NetInf) is an ICN architecture that aims at global-scale communication. It was conceived and developed by FP7 projects 4WARD and SAIL (http://www.netinf.org/).This project included the redesign of NetInf's routing and forwarding scheme and its implementation in the open source Python-based prototype (http://sourceforge.net/projects/netinf/). Next, the experimental performance evaluation of the router's forwarding scheme by measuring response times and aiming at scalability. Finally, an interface to the Quagga open source routing daemon was developed to enable incremental deployability, by using BGP to populate the forwarding tables.
