TomTom HOME is an application like Apple iTunes which serves as the interface between the device and all the content that can be installed into it like maps, software updates, and more. The Sharing platform is an extension to the HOME application that allows users to easily download, upload, share, and rate a wealth of navigation content with other users for free. All my work was done on the server side of this platform. My responsibilities started with the design and implementation of a J2EE application from scratch to support a 24/7 year-round service using open source software. A few months after the service was launched its success made it a perfect candidate to support the core functionalities of the HOME application, the map shop, a critical service for TomTom which was built and maintained from some years ago in a messy PHP codebase.The key to being a successful application was the constant throughput achieved by making heavy processing of information in background tasks to generate easily cacheable data ready to be served to the UI requests with minimal IO consumption.To achieve these goals I had to make best use of the following technologies: Java, Spring, Hibernate, JMS, JUnit, JMeter, DBUnit, HttpUnit, XML, JAXB, MySQL replication, Apache, JBoss, Subversion, Eclipse, Maven, Jira, Hudson, with Scrum as the development methodology.

• Redesign the legacy J2EE architecture removing badly applied patterns and unnecessary BPM APIs, upgrade frameworks and libraries, optimizing key aspects like automating biometrics capture and data communication in a Rich UI web application.• With this kind of application I am becoming an expert in other technologies like security with SSL/PKI infrastructure, generation of complex PDF documents, advanced JavaScript and ActiveX, biometrics. Also I have to deal with international standards, ISO, IMO, ILO, in order to get the certifications of the solution.Technical consultant at telecom Jazztel new CRM:• Designed and developed the J2EE technical architecture giving programmers the key concepts and support in areas like Spring, Hibernate, JMS, Weblogic, Togheter.• Responsible of the integration of our new custom made CRM with a legacy billing system, Arbor 8, achieving an effective decoupling between them was my personal goal.• Developed a Java standalone EAI like process JMS/XSLT/XPath oriented to fill the gap between the CRM and C++ processes interfacing with Arbor. Modifying these processes from stored procedure data retrieval to access data from XML messages making XPath queries.

Technical consultant at the Telefónica Móviles Intranet site:• Conducted complex server performance tests using scripts and commercial software.• Developed optimizations in critical sections of code in Java and C++.• Created a J2EE lightweight development and testing framework in UNIX and Windows by means of scripts, some of them with automatic code generation.• Audited the entire application source code to detect badly OOP and design patterns misuse.• Tuned Weblogic Server performance in Sun servers.• Created C++ libraries allowing servers to send SMS messages to administrators.Remote control and monitoring application software for high-speed rail security in the Madrid - Barcelona railway:• Implemented a visual Java application with a drag and drop interface using Java Beans with JNI services achieving hot deploying of new data acquisition devices and servers in real time monitoring them without loss of service even when updating the software.• Developed object oriented libraries as an abstraction layer to access hardware and Tibco services.• Deployed and tuned application servers in Sun, HP and Windows servers.

Application software architecture for Cellular and GSM telecom companies:• Designed a COM/CORBA C++ object oriented architecture modeled in UML.• Implemented a full COM to CORBA bridge in C++ so Visual Basic developers could handle CORBA server objects in a simple way.• Created automatic code generation tools to help in the migration of legacy C++ code from an old RPC implementation to CORBA.• Implemented wrapper libraries for accessing Oracle databases using the low level C API Oracle Call Interface .• Automated most of the development in UNIX platforms generating makefiles, directories, compile scripts and testing programs.• Created programming guidelines and imparted courses in advanced C++, COM, CORBA and Visual Basic to more than a hundred developers.
