Program Development | Team Leadership | Advocacy & EngagementFrom a young age, I have had a clear purpose to serve and unite — and have spent my entire professional career dedicated to public service. After earning my MPA from Columbia University, I advocated for working people in roles with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). I led legislative advocacy, member engagement and coalition efforts that established SEIU as the most effective union on immigration issues, served as the first Chief Diversity Officer of the Human Rights Campaign, and most recently, led the City of Seattle’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs to earn recognition as a national model on immigrant integration — at a time when mistrust of government among immigrant and refugee residents was at crisis levels.Highlights of my career and achievements include:— Served as Director of the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs for the City of Seattle, developing and launching new programs, including during two intensive years of COVID-19 response and recovery, establishing trusted and collaborative partnerships with hundreds of community organizations, and leading swift policy analysis and legislative advocacy.— Increased DEI awareness and competency of more than 1,000 Human Rights Campaign board members and local leaders spanning 27 cities.— Founded and led two nonprofit national civic engagement organizations that have risen to national prominence — Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia Vota Education Fund, advancing civic participation in Latino immigrant communities in Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and California.— Served as a board member and community volunteer on a number of organizations, advocating and promoting the interests of many groups — workers, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, women and low-income families.— Invited to speak at a variety of conferences, fundraisers, and forums — presenting on topics of leadership development, inclusion, equality and equity, and immigrant civic engagement and integration.My passion is building programs, leading and developing teams united in a shared vision and purpose, and advocating for equity.
