o Manages the Air Quality Management Branch and mentors staff.o Develops required State Implementation Plans associated with NAAQS and ensures submittal to EPA, as required.o Ensures modeling reviews and projects are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with MDEQ policies and procedures.o Ensures air quality forecasts are completed timely and in accordance with Agency commitments.o Ensures ambient air monitoring network is adequately maintained to meet EPA requirements and Agency commitments.o Participates in EPA and MJO conferences, meetings, committees, and calls to effectively monitor changes in the requirements and/or programs managed, provides feedback and comments to EPA on such proposed changes to ensure program requirements are appropriate and relevant, implements necessary program and/or regulatory changes to ensure continuous compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and makes staff and management aware of changes.o Manages grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, work orders, and program budgets.o Develops, manages, and coordinates other environmentally-related programs.

o Perform air quality forecasting for the MS Gulf Coast, Jackson Metro area, and DeSoto County, MS.o Analyzes meteorological and air pollution data to prepare pollution forecasts.o Advises the National Weather Service staff when and where to declare air pollution alerts for the state of Mississippi.o Maintaining documentation associated with issuing forecasts, draft status reports on ozone forecasting efforts, and annual National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) reports for the State of Mississippi.o Serve as the technical lead for reviewing Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) modeling for permit applications received by the Environmental Permits Division.o Perform air dispersion modeling and analysis of project-related and cumulative air quality impacts.o Address EPA Region 4 and third-party comments on PSD modeling. o Participate in State Implementation Planning (SIP) and other SIP functions requiring modeling.o Preprocess meteorological data to be used for air quality modeling purposes.o Maintain guidance and meteorological data provided for PSD projects. o Interpret Federal and State air pollution rules and regulations regarding the applicability of air quality impact assessment and review and assist in the implementation of technological developments in air pollution.o Assist stakeholders by explaining regulations, policies, and procedures.o Review of data produced by all air monitors within Mississippi's air monitoring network.o Collection, certification, quality assurance, and production of reports of all monitoring data.o Provide support maintaining SQL databases that house incoming NAAQS data from monitoring sites located around the state and assist air monitoring staff with other various data management/IT needs and providing technical support concerning computer hardware and software issues.o Provide weather information to assist authorities in emergency operations regarding both inclement weather/bad air quality episodes.

Taught Sophomore level college students lab applications of General Meteorology. The course is an overall view of the field of meteorology for science majors. A quantitative approach is used in the course to study the composition of the atmosphere, atmospheric processes, global circulation, and storm development. The material covered in lecture class during the previous week was applied during the lab to clarify the student’s perception and understanding of various atmospheric phenomena. Taught Junior level college students lab applications of Physical Meteorology. Physical Meteorology is a detailed investigation of atmospheric aerosols, the disposition of radiant energy, the earth’s radiation budget, precipitation processes, atmospheric optics and electricity. The material covered in lecture class during the previous week was applied during the lab to clarify the student’s perception and understanding of various atmospheric phenomena.

The Coastal Weather Research Center is a self-supporting operation of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of South Alabama. The Weather Center consists of a meteorological laboratory, information center and archive. Its major activities are the dissemination of forecasts, warnings to local and regional business and industry, and the support of Alabama's first and only undergraduate program in meteorology. Job duties were to assist in the day-to-day operation of the facility, produce weather forecast, and disseminate the forecast to clients.
