The ER treats a full range of issues including general ambulance calls, cardiac symptoms, accidents, orthopedics, and acute illnesses. The mission is to diagnose and treat patients, then either admit them, discharge them, or transport them to a facility with more resources. Specific duties of the ER staff include:• Perform a full range of medical procedures from examinations, diagnosis, trauma care, prescriptions, follow up and referrals.• Address issues presented by walk-in patients, including flu and other illnesses, abdominal pains, falls, broken bones, and head injuries.• Respond to accidents and other injuries from the local population as well as the tourist, ski and winter recreational industry.

Level II Trauma Center, 38K visits/yearTrinity is a major trauma center in ND. Cases presented in the ER are generally more critical and demand immediate specialized care. Additionally, the caseload is high, and the ER team functions in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Duties and tasks at Trinity include:• Triaging patients upon arrival and designating the appropriate trauma team and medical resources.• Providing critical care necessary to address the immediate medical issues and stabilize the patient.• Make recommendations for subsequent and follow-up therapeutic care and transfer the patient to the appropriate department.• Record and chart the care provided in a timely and accurate manner.

Level II Trauma Center, 35K visits/yearAltru is another major trauma center in North Dakota. Time is divided between Trinity and Altru when not attending at Midwest. Duties are similar to Trinity Hospital.
