I'm a qualified and accredited genealogist* who believes in working to the highest possible standards. I run two different businesses:ONLINE COURSESPharos Teaching and Tutoring Ltd are specialists in online genealogy education, providing topic-based courses both individually and as part of certificate programmes. Our excellent tutors are professional genealogists and archives professionals with many decades of teaching experience. Our students benefit from interaction with their tutor in weekly chat rooms on every tutor-led course. Courses are short and reasonably priced, based around interesting topics and fascinating records. Mostly focused on the records of the British Isles, there are also courses applicable internationally, such as those on DNA and one-name and one-place studies.GENEALOGICAL RESEARCHI offer family history research to private clients and fellow professionals, working with online records for England and Wales, and conducting local archive research primarily in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex (I've been known to travel into Norfolk, Lincolnshire and London). The world of genealogy has been transformed by the increasing popularity of DNA testing and all the techniques associated with its use, but it can be confusing. I offer advice on interpreting DNA results.I also love teaching students in genealogy how to make the most of their own research, what else they can try to solve problems and how they can be confident in their results. I am the Course Director and a Tutor at Pharos Teaching and Tutoring, have been a Tutor and Examiner at the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies and I run courses at the Society of Genealogists, again paying attention to the quality of my teaching materials.* The detail: I hold both the Higher Certificate and the Diploma in Genealogy from the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) in Canterbury. Before moving to a career in genealogy I worked in the pharmaceutical industry and have a PhD in scientific research, developing research skills that have transferred well into the genealogy field. I am a full AGRA Member (see: www.agra.org.uk) and served on both AGRA Council and the AGRA Board of Assessors (2014-2016). I am also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) and the Register of Qualified Genealogists (RQG).Please visit my websites or contact me for more information.
