I started CurlyRed in 2007 with the desire to create art. Usable art. My vision included the following statement: “...to lay bare the beauty in ordinary things is a great challenge.” I believe that, and it still drives me to create the best work I can. But it has taken me several years to realize that creating “usable art” is only one half of the challenge.As our business has grown and we’ve developed deeper relationships with more clients, I’ve realized that there is an even more important challenge ahead. I see, over and over again, other design firms and advertising agencies holding work ransom for sums impossible for anyone to afford - except the largest and wealthiest companies.Something seems fundamentally wrong about that. There are far too many small businesses and non-profits with great vision, but limited marketing budgets. Don’t they deserve the same access to good design? We think so.Since 2007, CurlyRed has provided fresh, captivating and timeless design, branding, print and web solutions for numerous companies and nonprofits across the country. As a lifelong lover of dance as an art form and creative physical expression, I wanted to bring something unique to Oakland’s Arts & Entertainment district.My creative firm, CurlyRed, has been located in this area for 6 years (and in Baltimore for 9 years before that). Garrett County, MD is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family, but it has its challenges. This is especially true in the colder months, when there are less options for physical activity. This has contributed to larger community health problems, like obesity and addiction. Jitterbug can help address these issues, while offering diverse and inclusive classes, workshops and intensives currently unavailable in this area. My desire is to promote well-being, both physically and mentally, through the artistry of dance.Jitterbug is a comprehensive movement studio, located in the heart of downtown Oakland (an Arts & Entertainment district) in Garrett County, Maryland. We will offer a diverse range of movement classes, workshops and intensives, including various styles of dance, yoga and wellness classes, and movement as it relates to theatre arts. Jitterbug will be open and available to all people, regardless of age, size, gender, race, or orientation.Jitterbug is a safe space to explore and celebrate the beauty, technique and artistry of all kinds of movement for all bodies.

Design package materials and manuals. Reformat existing manuals and catalogs to include multiple languages. Create a design for a Polk Audio/Hyperlite wakeboard. Design ads for publications such as Rolling Stone, Spin and Wakeboarding Magazine. Create all point-of-purchase materials for upcoming promotions, communicate directly with printer and oversee the execution and delivery of these materials to the stores. Design web banners for the website. Direct photographer in photo shoots and/or select stock photography to be used in printed pieces. Assist in creation of trade show signage. Report directly to the Creative Director.

Designed sign layouts and logos. Was able to troubleshoot any problems in the translations between artwork formats/programs and printing. Fully managed the Mimaki, a large-format solvent ink digital printer. Had working knowledge of printer maintenance and its inventory, including inks and a variety of printing materials. Communicated with customers and served as a reference for graphic-related questions. Produced signs and assisted with on-site installations.

Designed ad layouts for both UR Baltimore and DC On Campus newspapers. Designed article layouts for UR Baltimore. Proof-read ads and articles before going to print.
