On Lackey Ranch, I have worked with over 500 head of cattle within the Santa Gertrudis and Brangus breeds. While working with the cattle, I have learned various management styles of not only the cattle but the land as well. I was taught the most important aspect of owning cattle; managing the health of a herd, with proper medication and vaccines, feed regimens, great sources of hay and green grasses. I learned about the selling of cattle within good market time as well as bad market times. I was shown a type of land management that is well known by many cattle persons in the area. The specifics were on when to rotate pastures, placements of gates, water, and fences. All of these aspects combined helped me understand the most efficient way to manage a ranch in the healthiest way possible.

Ag Med supply is a local feed store in Goliad, Texas. While working here I used the knowledge I accumulated from the cattle industry to help provide information to customers about various items being sold. Using my own experiences raising cattle I gave helpful insight and demonstrated the products the customers were buying. When I wasn’t working in the feed store you could find me in the adjoining boutique, Hen House. In the boutique I was able to connect with a different pool of customers. This is where I fell in love with retail sales. My style and shopping habits were put to use when pointing customers to their perfect gifts or personal splurges.

Going in a little bit of a different direction within the cattle industry, staying within the retail world; I was a part of starting a t-shirt company specifically for the Hereford breed of cattle. With Hereford Prep I was able to see all aspects of creating a small business. My main role when creating was to provide feedback to the creators and oversee all activities the group participated in the process. The creators of the business were all young females within the industry. We were able to collaborate on various media and social events. We established Facebook and Instagram profiles. We were involved in the creation of a website tailored to different devices and easily navigated. Hereford Prep is majorly an online storefront; with that, the group was able to participate in creating the online shop that then connected all platforms. I was personally able to collaborate with a local photographer to compose a photoshoot for products, all while participating in the photoshoot myself. We had the opportunity to take our products as a small pop up shop to state and national Hereford cattle shows. Our first shop was at the 2016 Texas Hereford show where exhibitors from Texas came to show their Hereford cattle. A few weeks later we traveled to Louisville, Kentucky and set up our shop for the 2016 Junior National Hereford show where exhibitors from all over the United States participate in showing their Hereford cattle. In 2017, we brought the shop back to the Texas Hereford show and traveled to the Junior National Hereford show that was held in Grand Island, Nebraska. While working in the pop up shop the group was involved in setting up products and decorations, interacting and checking out the customers merchandise. While at the pop up shops I had the opportunity to oversee the group and participate in all activities conducted.
