About Curtis Edge
After working in the broadcast industry for nearly 10 years, I've felt the need for new challenges. I have recently completed the Full Stack Development Bootcamp at the Eyup Coding Academy, where I am learnt the latest technologies and best practices to create web applications. I am a Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) who values agile methodologies, collaboration, and continuous improvement. I am also proficient in Python, Excel Macros, and VBA, and I enjoy solving complex problems with code. Before joining Eyup Coding Academy, I worked as a senior broadcast network operator at Arqiva, a leading provider of terrestrial television and radio services. I was responsible for monitoring and maintaining the broadcast network, identifying and fixing faults, and managing repairs. I also trained new starters, improved and updated processes and procedures, and wrote new documentation for new equipment. I gained valuable technical knowledge and expertise in the broadcast domain, as well as communication, teamwork, and troubleshooting skills.

Student Full Stack Developer
During the course I have learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and built several projects in React. For backend languages I’ve learned Node.JS and Java, using MongoDB and SQL for databases.Though the languages are important, a large focus of this bootcamp is working in teams and working to Agile principles and we completed several projects as a Scrum Team. I also gained my Scrum Master certification whilst working through the course.
Senior Broadcast Network Operator
As a Network Operator I was responsible for monitoring and maintaining the terrestrial television and radio broadcast network. This involves using various telemetry systems to identify faults on the transmitter sites Arqiva maintains, attempt remote fixes and manage repairs. I also get involved with regular planned maintenance on the transmitter and programme distribution systems. In 2019 I was promoted to Senior Network Operator, which as well as continuing my duties as a regular operator, it involves further responsibilities. These include training new starters, improving and updating processes and procedures, writing new procedures for new equipment, assisting the N.O.s with technical knowledge and expertise. I also “act up” as Shift Leader (covering either brief periods or entire shifts), responsible for managing all of the network operators and in charge of the whole TV and Radio Broadcast Network for the country.
Broadcast Network Operator
Broadcast Service Desk Co-Ordinator
As a BSD operator, I was responsible for communications to Arqiva customers regarding faults in the Radio and Television Broadcast Network. These took the form of written reports, emails, text messages and telephone calls. This required constant monitoring of the systems and followed a very strict timeline for completing particular communications. I also acted as the first point of contact for customers for any queries or issues they had. As well as this, I was responsible for monitoring and progressing the maintenance to the aircraft warning lights on all of the masts in Britain, and keeping the CAA up to date with any faults.
Service Supervisor
The service department at Longcross are responsible for maintaining and repairing the fire and intruder alarm, CCTV and access control systems on many sites around the country. These range from retail and commercial building to secure government buildings. As the service supervisor, my main responsibilities were organising the team of six engineers to cover maintenance and reactive jobs on all of these sites within a tight budget. I was also responsible for producing quotes for larger repairs, and installs of additional equipment. I managed these projects from the quote through to completion, including sourcing and ordering of equipment and arranging delivery of access equipment. My other duties included maintaining and renewing contracts with clients, organising and managing repairs of equipment and maintaining levels of stock. Unfortunately, I was made redundant by Longcross when they decided to relocate their offices to Kent.
Contract Administrator
This contract was responsible for providing facilities management to over forty health centres and two hospitals spread throughout Nottinghamshire. I found the role of Contract Admin to be very varied and took responsibility for many tasks and created solutions for many issues that arose throughout my time on the contract. Whilst in the role I devised an automated system for producing itemised charges for our client. I created a KPI report based on the client’s requests, and produced this on a monthly basis. My day to day responsibilities were to monitor all reactive and maintenance jobs, and ensure the contract helpdesk were dealing with them within their KPIs. I was also responsible for sourcing and purchasing all materials for the contract, and ensured invoices for suppliers and subcontractors were processed correctly and within a reasonable time. This involved liaising with the subcontractors and resolving problems whenever they arose. I also assisted with collecting asset data to put together a full condition survey for all of the sites.
