CurrentIn my first year at Westerly Middle School, my colleague and I increased the percent of proficient students on the state ELA test by 16 points. When our students were in 7th grade, 35% of them scored proficient or advanced. After their 8th grade year with us, that number rose to 51%, which was the second highest improvement among all 8th grade cohorts in the entire state. Additionally, our 8th grade students had an average SGP (Student Growth Percentile) of 68, which was also the second highest in the state among 8th graders.In my second year, my colleague and I increased the amount of proficient or advanced students by 50%. The cohort went from 30% proficient or advanced in 7th grade to 45% in 8th grade. This was the second highest increase in the state among 8th grade cohorts. Our students' average SGP was 63, which was also the second highest in the state among 8th graders. Additionally, 58% of my students showed high growth, compared to the state average of 30%.
