As a Family Medicine Physician in the Department of Adult Medicine of The Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento, I provide patient care, teach/mentor medical students, and contribute to advancing ongoing programs and supporting compliance of the organization to the ever-changing health care regulations.Some key initiatives and accomplishments include:► Served as Physician Lead to develop end-of-life program for The Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento in compliance with the California End of Life Option Act, a new law enacted in June 2016 that allowed physicians to prescribe medications to end the life of terminally ill patients.✓ Rallied and led personnel from Scheduling, Specialty departments, region-wide teams, and other key stakeholders to develop processes and best practices to implement new law with the existing patient population.✓ The program has enrolled 325 patients and has been working efficiently and smoothly for the past 3 years.► Took the initiative to be one of the initial faculty members who implemented a new grant-funded program named Accelerated Competency-based Education in Primary Care at UC Davis Medical School. This program would allow medical students who were committed to primary care specialty to spend one year less in medical school while being granted guaranteed admission to a primary care residency program.✓ The program has become a valuable tool to recruit primary care-focused students since 2014.✓ Supported students accepted into the program and worked with one student over 3 years before graduating and moving on to primary care residency.► Selected from a pool of top-performing physicians to complete The Permanente Medical Group Emerging Leaders program.

While at Emory University, I completed MPH coursework and worked in collaboration with my thesis mentor to develop and gain IRB approvals for research thesis project on HIV risk of the transgender community in the Dominican Republic. Some key initiatives and accomplishments include:► Developed questionnaires for research subjects to gain a better understanding of the HIV risk of the transgender community in the Dominican Republic.► Reached out to several research and healthcare organizations in the Dominican Republic to gain their interest in collaborating in the project.► Traveled to the Dominican Republic and completed a 3-month study involving translation of questionnaire into Spanish by collaborating institution, confidential recruitment of 20 transgender subjects, and administration of questionnaires.► Reviewed and compiled answers, analyzed data, and included results interpretation and comparison with relevant published research in MPH thesis; presented thesis highlights to mentor and department personnel.

While at the CDC in Atlanta, I was fortunate to gain research experience on the pneumonia vaccine.Some key initiatives and learning highlights include:► Conducted pneumonia vaccine laboratory research using mouse models and bacterial cultures.► Isolated blood samples from mice and determined antibacterial effectiveness.► Received laboratory and safety training to handle animals and work in aseptic conditions.
