QCPM: April '17 - PresentThe Mayor's Office of Quality Control & Performance Management (QCPM) was formed from the former CitiStat office by Mayor Frank Jackson in April of 2017. The primary mission of QCPM is to monitor and assess program and service delivery to the citizens of Cleveland by tracking and improving the performance of Departments through the incorporation of efficient, effective, and economically sound process improvement methods and ensuring high levels of accountability, compliance, and quality control.CitiStat: April '16 - April '17The CitiStat department's purpose is to help the City of Cleveland better serve the community in an efficient and effective way. The CitiStat office works directly with the Chiefs and Directors governing the departments of Aging, Building and Housing, Community Development, Public Health, Public Utilities, and Public Works.By investigating and analyzing the city's current works processes, CitiStat is able to track and understand the effect of policies and planning, on the day to day operation of the departments. This information is then used to create recommendations and plans to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the work done by the city, through both process and technical improvements.As a member of the CitiStat staff, I have been primarily supporting the Department of Building and Housing, the primary focus areas of the Department are to inspect all rehabilitation and construction projects, and to provide nuisance abatement to condemned properties. The Director's office supervises and manages the Code Enforcement, Construction Permitting, and Records Administration Divisions. Notably, the Department has recently been focusing on inspecting, boarding up, and demolition of condemned and vacant properties.

Swagelok is a private manufacturing company that specializes in high purity fittings, valves, and hose components.During my time at Swagelok as a contracted Quality Engineer in the High Purity Group (HPG) I was in charge of the Find it, Fix it, Raise Your Hand program as a site wide improvement process for Swagelok's Highland Heights facility. My primary job was coordinating the development of quality plans and specifications for more than three hundred high purity products. To do so I led an initiative to inspect, analyze, and improve process documentation on over four hundred products.Drove Product Quality Planning on high purity products to understand failure modes and effects, to mitigate risks during manufacturing. This was achieved by creating teams of Quality, Product, and Manufacturing engineers with specific knowledge of the products and manufacturing processes to gain an understanding of the risks during manufacturing and how best to mitigate them.Primary materials worked with316 SS, 316 LV, Stainless, PCTFE, PEEK

Austen Bioinnovation Institute of Akron (ABIA) is a collaboration of Akron area hospitals, FirstEnergy, the Knight Foundation, and University of Akron. The partnership’s goal is to shorten time from idea to commercialization of new technologies and products by bringing together world-class scientists, physicians, engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs in biomedical products and polymer science.As Design Engineer and Business Analyst, I worked in the Product Innovation and Commercialization Division (PICD) focusing on: (1) medical device product design / development, and, (2) market analysis for new business concepts. I enjoyed the challenge, exploration and innovation involved in working on the evolution of medical products from initial concept, to design refinement, to regulatory approval, toward finished product market entry. This involved gaining a deep understanding of competitive devices and surgical procedures, taking concepts through a series of rapid prototypes, designing and modeling, testing using Solidworks, and creating test pieces for assessment by physicians.I served as ABIA’s primary contact point for the Akron Children's Medical campus, providing support for new concepts. Ideas were evaluated by creating a progression plan including engineering feasibility, market interest and competitive landscape.I was also charged with creating ABIA’s first-ever internal Quality Management System governing day-to-day PICD operations. The goal was to build and implement a system controlling operations, testing, and inspection of all procedures and products. This required a deep understanding of the entire ABIA working process.My position was eliminated after funding losses resulted in several rounds of layoffs. I am grateful for the learning opportunities and experiences I had during my time with Austen BioInnovation.

Led a team of people researching new markets and business opportunities for Momentive's Quartz division. The goal in the position was to identify untapped market segments by analyzing competitive technologies. In order to achieve this goal, I had to design and implement plans to gain an understanding of different markets, as well as managing my team's time to effectively overview the technologies.During my time at Momentive I headed two separate projects, as well as working with the Quartz group to identify other areas of interest. In the end the team had to make a suggestion to continue with the project or end it and reallocate resources to a different venture.

Hole Patch, LLC was small start-up that developed and began to commercialize a temporary pothole patch. This product served as an alternative to the current cold patch method of pothole repair. The product makes novel use of a Non-Newtonian Fluid, which behaves like a liquid to fill the hole and becomes rigid when a force is applied (e.g. a car driving on it). The product design has received awards from several companies and design competitions including Saint-Gobain,MAGNET, Idea Labs, and GLIDE.Hole Patch has been featured throughout the world in publications such as Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, International Business Times, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, ScienceNow, and several other news outlets.
