My primary responsibilities were Marx Generator design and vircator optimization and design.Marx design- PFN Marx, capable of 500 Hz operation for a duration of 2 s. Gas switches use dry filtered air from air compressor at 80 SCFM flow rate. PFN stages interchangable for different pulse length, and impedance . Robust system >300,000 shots with no maintenance required.Vircator design- Frequency Tunable via adjustible Cavity Reflector and A-K Gap. Burst mode duration >2 s at 500 Hz PRF achieved via pyrolytic graphite anode (anode cooling via. black body radiation) Rogowski profiled cathode eliminated edge emission. Developed a theoretical model to estimate electron beam heating of the anode from previous work by others on electron beam interaction with solid targets. Experimental model for vircator oscillation frequency as a function of measured voltage and current waveforms. Trigger Generator- Solid state driven transformer with magnetic pulse compression. Modular design allows driving up to 6 transformers in parallel, and stacking the outputs in series to achieve high voltages.Rapid Capacitor Charger- Inverter driving step up transformer with rectified output. 100kVA output power with current mode control and voltage feedback.Battery Pack- 380V, 8 Ahr Lithium Polymer battery stack. Integrated heat sinks, cooling fans, relays to break the cells into 4 smaller series connected sections for safety during servicing. Temperature monitoring of each cell with dissipative balancing during charging. -
