Finalist - The King Of Arroyo Del Rey
El Segundo Museum Of Art Short Film Festival
Meet Carol Soucek King - the modern day matriarch of conscious uplifted thought. Per Wikipedia, “A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host. Salons, commonly associated with French literary and philosophical movements of the 17th and 18th centuries, were carried on until as recently as the 1940s in urban settings.” They were known to be matriarchal in nature and held in a setting that promoted interaction among its participants. In the 1990’s, Carol resurrected the idea of salons and has conducted monthly meetings at her house, Arroyo del Rey, for the past 22 years. Her salons have brought luminaries in the fields or architecture, painting, sculpture, literature, archeology, writing, religion, and many other areas of the humanities together to discuss and generate awareness to alternative ideas and modalities of thought. The goal is to create conscious uplifted thought through discussion and introspection. She accomplishes her intentions through open, respectful dialogue between all participants and the speakers of her monthly forum. She has made it her life long goal to study the ten chapters in her book, Under the Bridges at Arroyo del Rey. The chapters: Stability, Growth, Possibility, Humor, Understanding, Kindness, Harmony, Love, Healing, and Spirituality currently serve as the topics of her salon as she explores each of those topics to bring about her own awareness and understanding and through that process offer the same gifts to those who attend her meetings.
