In this Position I worked with the Coker 2 Operations Team to provide guidance, troubleshooting support, and develop processes to ensure learnings are documented, shared and applied across al of the operations crews during the units first cycle ending TAR. This position initially was focusing on unit de-inventorying, cleaning, and preparation for blinding. Once TAR conditions are met, this position will be monitoring various TAR activities to provide continuous improvement suggestions, ensure good communication between groups, and provided the operators with coaching on what to look for during TAR activities (managing changing conditions, SIMOPS (simultaneous operations),(tightness testing signoff, QA, completions, and operations readiness for Startup).

•Redistribution of PSM boundary’s on P&ID documentation before construction turned over packages were released to operations. Reported progress to plant management. PSM compliance and leadership within a team of PSM Engineers.

Whiting, Indiana

Involved with the integration from construction completions, punch list verification and completion turnovers. Responsible for attending construction meetings, assimilating information and reporting progress to Management and Operations and commissioning/start up activities as part of the world class Coker 2 Operations Team. Oversaw furnace clusters being constructed and prepared commissioning procedures and activities, including: Plant Air, Boiler Feed Water, 400# steam, 150# steam, Refinery Fuel Gas, Natural Gas, Vent Gas from the Caustic Treater, Aqueous Ammonia, Furnaces, Forced Draft / Induced Draft Fans, Lube Systems, Cutting Water Clusters on the structure with TUD's and BUD's and Sliding Gate Valves Drilling Equipment.Key Achievements: Introduced to project two years before construction completion. Integrated into construction team, established good working rapport with the construction superintendents and completed construction punch lists and turnovers to BP. Achieved single point of contact for all construction system punch list verifications, completions and turnover packages. Assisted with operator assimilation of functional training for the Coker Process, Recovery Gas Systems, System P&ID walk downs with Operations, Decoking Equipment and Preventive Maintenance planning and training. After startup worked on several unit projects and became the unit winterization project lead.

Greater Denver Colorado Area

Helped to run the Emerson DeltaV Console for a R & D Plant developing clean fuels technology. I operated a biomass (wood) gasification unit which included wood grinding and handling system, bag house and reformer. Operated wood gas cleanup units. Operated Steam Methane Reformer (SMR), Boiler and Steam Generation Equipment, Gas compressors, TEG unit, Amine unit and FT (Fischer–Tropsch) reactor.

Minatitlan, Mexico

Start up consultant for Foster Wheeler USA, Houston Texas. Hired on an advisory basis to help the operations group during a delayed Coker Start up in Minatitlan, Mexico for PEMEX at their refinery in southern Mexico.

preformed and wrote up an initial and follow up Gap Analysis and also constructed and formatted the Safety Manual for Danos & Curole as part of the BP’s GCRO (gulf coast restoration organization) VMP (vessel management program) in the Gulf of Mexico.

Gulf Of Mexico

•Responsible for large vessel decon facility operations used during BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico located at Port Fourchon, LA. Handled documentation control and BP equipment de-boarding the effort at the Port. Assessed initial sites to establish baseline of progress and reported to ICS in New Orleans. Developed, trained, managed, audited and supervised a team of 14 administration personnel and 8 supervisors to capture data and oversee 1300 large vessel decontamination. Assimilated data from each decon site with over 1000 contractors on site and produced progress reports throughout the day to the Incident command center in New Orleans. Responsible for ensuring that personnel, documents, records management and retention standards/policies were strictly enforced for BP.Responsible for near Shore on Water Skimming Operations for 100 square miles from Pensacola, Florida to Orange Beach, Al for the BP Deep Water Horizon oil spill response. Managed, supervised up to 25 vessels with crews and gave direction to 10 HSE employees. Coordinated the daily activities, maintained an inventory of equipment and communicated with the Operations Incident Command Center, Coast Guard and Local & State Agency’s in Alabama and Florida.

Carson, California

•Supervised up to 27 employees per shift for 3 units and was responsible for Unit operations for the Delayed Coker, Sulfur Plant and Coke Conveyors, Storage and teams’ status. Managed employee training, job progression, OSHA 3 year comprehensive unit knowledge testing, payroll, annual evaluations, and completed HSE incident investigations as required. Obtained ICS certification as needed for incidents at the refinery. Handled documentation control of all HSSE training documents and unit progress status for employees, which created a strong team environment.Key Achievements:•Monitored, audited and trained three units and their assigned employees within the refinery to maintain compliance to 14 elements of Process Safety Management per the OSHA requirement based on 29 CFR 1910.119.•Created a cohesive and high performing team culture.•Became Refinery Operation Environmental Liaison /Air Quality/Water Reclamation. Worked with OSHA, AQMD and the EPA agencies in my capacity as Process Operations Supervisor and PSM Specialist to maintain facilities environmental and safety compliance. Achieved Certified Opacity reader testing.•Wrote and formatted more than 250 Coker Operation procedures as a technical writer for BP. Constructed and formatted safety and process manuals.•Experience with OSHA, AQMD and the EPA agencies.•Documented control, tracking and forecasting in BP’s Document Control System for employees. •Tracked and documented incident reports through Refinery ICS member.•Monitored control of work execution through walk through auditing with operations and maintenance. •Participated in Refinery Policy and Procedures committee as well as wrote and reviewed refinery wide HSE procedures for 2 years.•Fire Department Truck Captain for eighteen years in emergency services, performed safety assessments regularly and supervised the Fire Teams tactical responses to oil fires and chemical spills.

Long Beach, Ca

Worked on following and reporting construction process and was assigned as commissioning lead. This project was completed in conjunction with the BP Refinery to construct a facility to process the propylene produced within the refinery. This was the only Polypropylene facility built west of the Rocky Mountains.Key Achievements:•Monitored construction process and trained new employees in the finishing area which included 85% of the unit vessels and equipment.•Wrote and performed pre- commissioning procedures and trained 8 other employees to do the same during the construction phase of the project.•Drew up process flow diagrams for unit processes to help current and future training requirements.
