Manager Of The River Analysis And Decision Support Group

Knoxville, Tn, Us

I led the River Analysis and Decision Support group. This group is responsible for supporting the operational forecast system, hydrology and hydraulics studies, floodplain & flood risk management and water supply.Projects included:A dendrochronology study linked with reservoir modelling, which pushed our understanding of droughts back 1,000 years. This will allow TVA to better understand the water reliability at points throughout the valley.A paleoflood study that increased our flood record from ~100 years to more than 5,000 years. This study greatly increased our confidence in flood hazard likelihood. Studies of three more TVA basins will occur 2021-2023 to use the new methods to help improve flood likelihood basinwide.Dambreak consequences studies to quantify the impacts of hypothetical dambreaks for dam safety investment prioritization.Probabilistic flood hazard analyses to better understand the likelihood of flood loadings on our dams at extremely rare levels.Floodplain management of thousands of miles of shoreline.A project to more tightly integrate the operational river forecast system and balancing authority to unlock more generating flexibility from the hydro fleet.
