Responsible for overseeing any Hazardous Materials incidents, Training, Consulting, within the Department.

Provide Tactical EMS in operations involving Special Response Teams (SWAT).

Captains are the division leaders. They oversee the daily functions performed by about 45 shift fire fighters and assume the roll of Battalion Chief in his/her absence. A Captain executes the orders of the Battalion Chief and assure Department and Division policy is strictly adhered to. Daily administrative tasks such as scheduling changes, daily roster preparation, duty assignment changes and vacation scheduling all fall under the responsibility of the duty Captain. A Captain also acts as the intermediary in the chain-of-command between line the 6 lieutenants on shift, and the Battalion Chief - shift issues and problems are generally solved by a Captain. A Captain takes Command of Emergency Scenes upon arrival and coordinates all emergency scene operations. I have held other positions on the Fire Department including, Engineer, Paramedic, Swat Team Medic, Lieutenant, Training Officer, Honor Guard, and Hazardous Materials Team Coordinator.

Developed, Managed, and provided Hazardous Materials Training to members of Oakland Community College, Fire Academy Students, and Private Industry professionals to better perform their duties.
