Interesting tasks at Arbor Networks included analyzing emerging threats to Internet security, threat intelligence analysis and operations, reverse engineering malicious code and communications protocols, developing policies for attack mitigation, contributing to the continual improvement and automation of Arbor's internal threat analysis software infrastructure, and attempting to be a knowledge sponge.

Position provides full-spectrum IT security work to protect & defend the campus area network, sensitive data and sensitive systems. Currently providing vision and guidance to the IT Security Team as Team Lead. Also provides senior-level hands-on functionality in vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, firewall management, intrusion detection systems analysis, security architecture, application security, systems and network administration, malware analysis, threat analysis, security research, inter-departmental consultation, PCI security compliance and more.

Administered a variety of Linux and Windows servers to meet the goals of SIUC's Plant and Service Operations (PSO) function. Involved running Apache, BIND, rsync, samba, NFS, centralized anti-virus, MySQL, networking, and general systems engineering. Also deployed snort based IDS with BASE frontend for intrusion detection analysis.

Managed a campus Information Technolog Computer Learning Center lab to include setup and maintenance of all computer systems, supervision of employees and scheduling, and interface with faculty and staff to help provide support for academic goals and institutional mission. In addition, 1/4 time was allocated to administering Windows servers at the SIUC College of Business Pontikes Center for Management of Information to include security hardening, compromise analysis, system engineering, networking, security engineering and seminar delivery.

Performed IT security engineering and consulting work to clients in the Chicago and Milwaukee area as part of a specialized Security Practice Area. Services included firewall log analysis, client network Intrusion Detection System management, client security threat meetings, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, general security consulting and security research.

Performed various functions starting with PC technician duties which rapidly led to increased responsibility with mission critical hosts including host and network security functions.This included security of a home banking system, internal vulnerability assessments, security architecture, systems and network administration, and e-commerce security consultation.
