Tested Harley’s

We built stuff. Other people battle tested what we built at speeds of 200 mph or even greater at these old “mom and pops” race tracks like Daytona, Dega, Atlanta, Martinsville and Bristol just to name a few. During the Craftsman Truck race at Daytona International Speedway in 2000, Geoff Bodine was collected during an incident on the front straightway just as the field was approaching the tri-oval. Bodine’s left front tire touched a competitors right front tire sending his truck air-born and cartwheeling along the separation fence of the grandstands. As his truck was re-entering the racing surface and still airborne the roof was struck by another competitors windshield/roof area sending Bodines truck tumbling into the air once again. It was the most terrifying accident I’d ever witnessed. I actually worked alongside his nephew who immediately went home. The truck that made the final contact with Bodines truck was delivered to our shop the following day. For some, this next statement will be meaningless but for those that have been around racing, you will be silenced after reading it. The contact was so heavy from the second truck that it pushed the Earnhardt Bar into the gear shifter ball and the transmission was still in 4th gear when it was unloaded on rollers into our shop. Thank goodness NASCAR had not mandated center seated drivers.
