Field Ready works in disaster affected countries to improve timeliness, effectiveness and efficiency of disaster response by building the capability of local manufacturers. Making relief items locally reduces the need for costly transport and logistics and allows responders to access the supplies they need rapidly. Field Ready’s experience has shown that supplies manufactured locally are in most instances cheaper and faster than those sourced through traditional humanitarian supply chains, and have the added benefit of supporting local manufacturers, building their resilience to the economic stresses that many MSMEs face when disaster strikes. I am currently doing groundwork on the early phase of Field Ready in mapping potential and existing manufacturers, FabLabs, and possible partners and stakeholders to be part of a cohesive local value chain, having disaster response as a goal. I incorporated the organization in the Philippines and started building partnership work with relevant cross-sectoral stakeholders between humanitarian aid, supply chains, and social innovation.
