Having worked in a wide range of industries, I have a lot of exposure to varied working environments, working styles, organizational structures, management styles and market focus. Despite occupying many different positions with their own levels of responsibility and expectations, a few skills always stood out as being notable strengths – including two weaknesses which later transformed into strengths. Those two were:Dealing with people and ability to communicate – more so the ability to speak as opposed to only listening.Sales and Marketing and working with clients. The notable strengths which I have grown that today stand me in good stead with the work I am doing as a Scrum Master include:Ability to communicate with people, my own willingness to do so as well as being very approachable and able to put people at ease.High work ethic and acceptance of accountability.Ability to effectively co-ordinate people, projects and assist or coach others to do so.Ability to coach and mentor, explaining concepts effectively.Perfectionist attitude.Ability to identify problem areas in an organization and recommend solutions.Effective persuasion - not something I would have previously noted as something I had worked on all these years but eventually learned that it was indeed. My recent career move to becoming a Scrum Master was one that was made after having learned a fair amount of the Scrum concepts and realizing that many of the skills and particular areas of interest that I had used and re-used in all the jobs that I have done would enable me to become an effective Scrum Master. I have been working for several months now as a Scrum Master and have adapted very well to this new career and doing very well. My blog will show the progress that I have made to date.
