Our reverse-engineering lab facility expanded to meet the needs of our clients. Our latest facility offers about 4500 sq. ft. of testing, teardown, and storage space that allows my team significantly more room to conduct its work. Test chambers now feature multiple power supplies and environmental controls. Concurrently, we expanded the capabilities of the cost model to accommodate more processes, materials, and purchased parts. Inputs into the cost model are captured in databases that speed data entry. The contents are vetted by manufacturers and regularly updated.Notable clients include the Department of Energy Building Technology Office Appliance and Equipment Standards Program, which the Navigant Energy practice has supported with its analysis since 1995.

At Navigant, I have had the privilege of expanding my work in all things cost modeling and founded a reverse-engineering and test facility. The facility offers multiple test stations for test procedure development as well as the equipment and space required to dissect and reverse engineer products efficiently and safely. I've also participated in multiple due diligence assignments focusing on photovoltaic manufacturers, medical devices, and even a 50kW gasifier.

At Alvamed, I worked as the practice manager for the intellectual property group as well as a principal on the management team. One of my key clients was a local world-class pediatric hospital, where our team evaluated the medical device intellectual property portfolio pipeline to quickly determine for which technologies to seek patent protection and also participated in bringing technologies to market. It's truly amazing what medical technologies are under development.

I started my career at ADL, working mostly in the technology division. I performed multiple technology assessment and built technical cost models for many different fields including: durable consumer goods, solid-oxide fuel cells, fuel reformers, medical devices, microturbines, among others. One career highlight was being asked by Sub Zero to assess the potential cost of entering the cooking appliance market. After tearing down a range of competing products and determining their costs, the client asked me to join the core SZ team in Madison to make the factory (and the brand) a reality. Thus, I had the pleasure of laying out a 300,000 sq ft factory, helping the client determine what equipment to buy, what parts or processes to outsource, where to locate each assembly line, etc. Additionally, I participated in multiple manufacturing line transfers from the Wolf facility in Compton, CA to the Madison SZ facility. Happily, the cost model predictions were correct and the SZ Wolf facility met cost and output targets. I also participated in numerous operations improvement assignments, cutting waste, improving uptime, increasing yields, reducing costs without extensive investments. Sometimes, companies are their own worst enemies!
