Building data analytic applications on Hadoop.

Member of Hadoop Engineering Team to deliver next-generation solutions for large installations up to 8000 computing nodes. As Quality Engineer, submitted java patches to Apache Hadoop HDFS, and developed automated tests in bash and perl in Hadoop Security, Federation, Client-Side Mount Table, trouble-shooting Hadoop Configuration, Installations, kerberos and network-related issues, and supports developers. As Development Engineer in VoIP area of Y!Messenger, working on voice/video applications running on hundreds of servers utilizing hundreds of Gbps bandwidth. The voicemail system consists of replicated mysql server (about half a billion rows) for voicemail metadata. Also worked on voice listening server, webcam and web services on billing. C++, Apache, soap, SSL, MySQL (replication), VIP, RTP, SIP, php, perl, yinst, yroot.

§ Development of web-application for Sprint to track its performance on the Push To Talk service, using java, SQL, hadoop mapReduce, pig, xml. The OLAP system eventually processed tens of gigabyte of data daily. Role involves coding in java, sql, xml, sh as well as maven build, junit test, QA, and installation, administration and performance tuning of software running on hadoop grid.§ Led platform team to develop a highly scalable java server platform based on hadoop/PIG to support trouble-shooting and data mining/dimensional analysis on cell phone analytics on 3G/EVDO data and voice. Agile development methodology with continuous integration. Much work were in QA, hadoop admin & performance.§ Led the tuning effort to improve performance of the analytics software on hadoop/pig by 50X

MobileAria (a Delphi company) was acquired by Wireless Matrix in 2006.§ Drove the development of AJAX in mapping display of vehicles, and Web Services in supporting of XML using REST/HTTPS and Sonic JMS Messages to a dozen partners.§ Led the development of vehicle bus monitoring system for vehicle diagnostics and fuel consumption optimization § Rebuilt the server team after Wireless Matrix’s purchase (as key developers departed).

MobileAria was in Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) business. It was part of Delphi Corp. but was acquired by Wireless Matrix in 2007.§ Led the development of client, server and QA team in development of an Automatic Vehicle Location system for 15000 trucks at Verizon, bringing in over $10M during the first year.§ Spearheaded the Verizon Wireless Certification Process in MIP/SIP and Data Retry Testing.§ Led the development of a fuel monitoring solution for trucks using J1708 vehicle interface.

GWcom developed narrow-band wireless infrastructures, including handsets, base stations, packet/message switch and application server. Developed the first wireless stock trading system in China. Later, the company went into wireless applications (SMS, WAP, J2ME) serving the China market. Wireless infrastructures was spun off to become General Wireless Technology in 2002 (in which I was part of) and served as CTO.§ Led the server development team in a wireless network and application server, later also led the mobile device and base station team.§ Turned around a packet-switch network server by realigning development and release processes, instituting rigorous testing, and revamping architecture, algorithm, design and coding practices.§ Development of wireless stock trading system, enabling stock trading through a mobile device (back in 1998). Also developed gateways such that mobile device can access email, paging, SMS and internet. § Oversaw development in Web, SMS/WAP and data center set up in China.§ Development of a java-based comparison shopping and an m-commerce server for Best Buy§ Led development effort of a 60-people team, driving project and technical details to deliver a wireless PDA§ Created 7 new PDA applications and usable debugging environment. Delivered 300K lines of code and extensive bug fixes on another 400K lines in 17 months.§ Set up a development center in China, including development, QA, manufacturing and operations.§ Developed a GPS vehicle tracking system, fleet management system and location-based advertising system for public transit in China based on GPRS modem§ Oversaw a team in Santa Clara doing an RF ASIC chip with 3 RF channels.

§ Led software development in a performance-critical cycle-based simulator, which involved synthesis and code generation in C++ on Solaris. Benchmarked to be twice as fast as market leader.§ In charge of development process, development environment and tools on Windows NT and Unix. Managed the integration and test, as well as IT and network administration for the Solaris and Windows.

Objectivity was a pioneer in Object Database.§ Development of a object-database on NT. The NT product subsequently brought in millions of dollars in sales.§ Major-account pre-sale and post-sales support, beta-site management, demo development, trade-show demo, § Market analysis, product requirement & management, technology selection of the NT product

Daisy was a pioneer in CAE market. I joined the System Group in working in porting the Unix kernel to the new hardware. Later moved moved to Application to lead the development of a simulator.§ Delivered state-of-the art digital simulator, in 300,000 lines of C code on Solaris and 386-based Sun workstations with excellent quality under very difficult circumstances. § Coordinated multi-site development with teams in Israel, Colorado and Oregon. § Developed VHDL and C model support though Daisy’s behavioral simulation (DABL), which supports a virtual machine interpreter in executing byte codes of hardware description language§ Ported bsd Unix to Daisy’s multi-processor computer system. Worked in virtual memory, process group, ethernet device driver, diagnostics, booting firmware. Also ported C run time library & compiler.
