The Trade Desk provides services to top advertising agencies allowing them to purchase digital advertising in real time with the highest return on investment. Hundreds of IIS/ASP.NET cloud-based servers process and respond to millions of requests per second. My responsibilities include maintaining these system and adding new features that allow even more effective ROI for our customers. Big data processing using cloud services keep track of millions of bits of data used through the system to inform ad purchace desisioning and provide near real-time feedback to the customers through our web portal. I also helped maintain and improve this customer facing web portal using ASP.NET, Razor, MVC, Entity Framework, and SQL. I also wrote Flash ActionScript code to monitor video ads and return information about their effectiveness.

Design & maintain the SystemSuite & Fix-It consumer and OEM software products. I was instrumental in porting much of the UI into WPF/C# while maintaining interoperability with legacy C++ code. I lead a group of five engineers, manage design and architecture, distribute tasks, define team priorities, and work closely with the Product Management team.

As part of a chain of acquisitions, I worked on a behavioral based Antivirus that required no signatures so it was capable of capturing new, never-before-seen viruses. I designed and managed the MS SQL backend responsible for processing hundreds of queries per second and collecting gigabytes of data through ASP.NET web services and web handlers. This data was in turn automatically and manually processed to improve the products detection capabilities in real time. I also designed the low level API using local RPC and later COM/DCOM used to integrate ThreatFire into third party products. Higher level GUI implementation using C++, ATL, and Microsoft embedded web browser control was also my responsibility. I also maintained the public facing web site using ASP.NET and AJAX as well as internal reporting sites that detailed the real time use and effectiveness of the software.

As Principle Software Engineer, I managed projects with teams of 4-6 people. I handled project timelines and progress reporting, requirement and design documentation, high-level software design, and low-level design and development software components. I performed employee training, interviewing, hiring, performance reviews, and code reviews. I also established policies and procedures for code consistency and software configuration. The software products we created and maintained included many well know PC utilities such as ZipMagic, PowerDesk, FixIt, and SystemSuite.

As the Managing Software Engineer, I was responsible for all aspects of Smith Micro's small Boulder office. Project related responsibilities included project management, product requirements and high-level design, implementation and enforcement of product lifecycle techniques, weekly meetings, progress reports back to management at the home office, and customer (OEM) contact and communication to handle the specifics of what new features would be required in future versions. Employee related responsibilities included interviewing, hiring, training, performance and code reviews, and overall employee morale. Smith Micro created the popular software packages QuickLink and QuickLink Message Center. These were sold OEM to nearly every modem manufacturer during the 90's. We also created the retail derivatives HotFax and HotFax Message Center.

I worked my way through college at Disneyland, giving tours through tropical jungles, running trains through abandoned gold mines, sailing three masted clipper ships, ghost busting in haunted mansions, and piloting steam boats. It was loads of fun and a memorable time in my life.
