Responsible for all IT, communication and automation systems for Rio Tinto Alcans UK operations which comprised of:- 2 Reduction Pot lines of 80 pots using AP18 technology with a line current of 215kA- Casting Plant- Power Stations (Lochaber & Kinlochleven) and associated Hydro schemes across the Highlands of Scotland-Remote ship unloading facility located in the Port of BlythThe Smelter and its associated operations employed 158 people, had over 250 users and 500+ endpoints.Operational Responsibilities:- Local capital and opex management - Execution and oversight of key strategic engineering and automation projects- Generation and maintenance of operations technology roadmap- Engagement with operations and other support functions to ensure alignment and encourage adoption of new technologies- Strategic policy generation for digital plant in conjunction with global leadership for smelting operations Projects Delivered:- Plant wide trunked UHF radio system for mission critical comms and messaging- Remote outstation monitoring network for hydroschemes leveraging sat-comms and VHF radio- 75+ IP CCTV camera network for safety and process monitoring- Introduction of a dedicated, secure ISA-95 compliant plant network (including firewalling and monitoring)-Migration from physical to virtual HMI and SCADA for all plants on site (over 50 SCADA systems, interfacing with 20+ complex plants)- Alarm management program, rationalisation of alarms and responses for power station facilities- Design and refurb of control rooms in line with modern human factor considerations- Storage and compute infrastructure upgrade (ESX hosts, NAS)- Design and implementation of MES for Smelting and Casting operations - Shutdown of automation and IT operations at Lynemouth Smelter including movement of historic data and applications to Lochaber Smelter- Planning of migration to Rio Tinto global SAP from Oracle ERP and Maximo CMMS
