Milan Patel was Chief Operating Officer of BlueVoyant’s Managed Security Service (MSS). BlueVoyant is an advanced threat intelligence and next-generation managed security services company. Milan is one the founding members of BlueVoyant and led the creation of the MSS business for the company. BlueVoyant’s MSS is the first cloud-based, global SOC operation with an integrated real-time incident response, threat intelligence, and security event automation and orchestration service. In his role as a senior member at BlueVoyant, Milan is involved with all aspects of the MSS to include strategy, partnerships, security operations, and client success. Milan is a frequent speaker at national and regional cybersecurity conferences and a routine presenter to C-suite and board members at companies spanning various industries and sizes.

Milan was the Managing Director of K2 Intelligence's Cyber Defense Practice, where he established the practice and successfully transitioned the team to BlueVoyant. With over 15 years of experience in national security and criminal cyber investigations, as well as national-level cyber policy and technology strategy, Milan was responsible for creating and managing the managed detection and response, and incident response businesses at K2. His duties included leading complex incident response engagements, cyber risk assessments, board-level tabletop exercises, and insider threat investigations for a variety of clients worldwide.

Milan served as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the FBI Cyber Division, where he was responsible for advising the FBI Cyber Division on national-level policy and strategy, and the tactical direction of information and operational technologies used in cyber investigations across all 56 FBI offices in the United States. Leading a team of senior FBI agents and cybersecurity experts, he identified and implemented technologies used in cyber incident response and traditional cyber investigations to support interagency cyber threat intelligence sharing within the United States intelligence community (USIC). He also developed more efficient processes and utilization of the Cyber Division’s enterprise cyber threat management platform to enable faster information sharing with the private sector and USIC.In addition, Milan co-led the Joint Requirements Team, facilitated by the White House National Security Council—Cyber Security Directorate, to create inter-agency business and technology requirements to address President Obama’s Executive Order 13636, “Improving Critical Infrastructure Cyber Security.” This resulted in the development of the first national cyber incident severity scheme approved by the White House and senior leadership within the US intelligence and federal law enforcement communities, which outlines how and when the US government will respond and coordinate during cyber incidents and how it will share information with the private sector.

Milan was one of the FBI Cyber Division’s most senior special agents, serving as a Supervisory Special Agent at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. His duties included managing and coordinating enterprise investigations, defensive and counteroffensive operations, and providing classified and unclassified cyber threat intelligence briefings to C-suite executives of critical infrastructure sector organizations - most notably, highly-classified threat briefings to the financial services industry.

As a Special Agent of the FBI, Milan spearheaded a range of high-profile, global cyber investigations, such as Silk Road dark web market, Anonymous, and Operation Ghost Click, one of the most extensive botnet takedowns of all time. Between 2011 and 2012, the investigations Milan led were included in the top 10 investigations of the FBI. In addition to cyber-crimes, he also investigated traditional felonies, such as bank fraud, money laundering, intellectual property rights violations, and violent crimes. Milan was also part of the FBI's counterterrorism activities overseas, acting as a senior interrogator in support of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) operations. Furthermore, he was a tactical operator on the FBI's renowned Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.In recognition of his accomplishments, Milan was honored with the Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for Outstanding Cyber Investigation and the Intelligence Integration Unit Citation from the Directorate of National Intelligence. He was also nominated for the FBI Director’s Award for Investigative Excellence multiple times and the Attorney General's Award.
