Ever since I was a young lad (and yes I did just say “lad”, but I promise you didn’t just stumble upon the script of an old Shakespeare play that was lost in the archives and still written in Old English) I have always had a potent affinity for technology in general and more recently I have grown fond of learning about the technicalities and intricacies of cybersecurity. As a martial arts enthusiast and practitioner, the principle of defense is critically important to me, and what better way to uphold the tenet of digital defense than to become a martial arts expert…CYBER STYLE *Insert Jazz hands here*. Resultantly, I now have a vested interest in transitioning into this industry full time and thus have chosen to enroll in various online cybersecurity courses and I am simultaneously studying to acquire the CompTIA Security+ certification as well as pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science at Dalhousie University. My favourite projects and practical lab exercises thus far have pertained to the broader topic of host-based security. They included conducting both passive and active enumeration of various endpoint devices in a virtualized environment to identify and subsequently terminate unsecure services running on the hosts. In addition to this, I also configured and implemented host-based firewall rules to filter out network traffic that was directed to the respective ports of the unsecure services on the various endpoints thus mitigating the attack surface and fostering greater security within the cyber environment...albeit a virtual one. I am eager to continue enhancing my technical aptitude and gaining more practical experience as I progress further through the course and my certification preparation. I would be elated to utilize my phenomenal interpersonal skills and naturally charismatic demeanour in conjunction with my insatiable desire to constantly expand my technical knowledge base and hone my skillsets to ultimately ingratiate and gracefully integrate myself into a team of like-minded individuals consistently striving to make our increasingly digitized world more secure and just for all who inhabit it. Essentially, what I’m saying is I want to be a modern-day superhero…and I will be very soon ;).
