Ms. Cynthia Hormel has extensive knowledge and understanding of issues confronting school nutrition operations. Serving as the School Nutrition Director for Alexandria City Public Schools she implemented many change management initiatives. These initiatives include increased fiscal responsibility & oversight, increased student participation, expanded meal programs & services, implementation of a new salary structure, grew revenues by 1M+ annually, developed and implemented an extensive offsite pandemic relief meal program, growing meals from 3,000 to 125,000 meals a week, restructured the districts procurement model for the program that resulted in significant savings to the department. In addition, developed the criteria and provided oversight for a district modernization plan for cafeteria renovation and new construction in the School Nutrition Program.In her role as Senior Nutrition Advisor at FNS she was tasked with addressing Childhood Obesity in the United States, national in scope. She had frequent contact with high ranking officials, civilian directors, supervisors, and technical staff in federal agencies, higher education/K-12 and in the private/public sectors. She provides direction, recommendations and leadership that ultimately impacts Federal, State and Local nutrition education programs nationwide, aligning external and internal partnerships across federal agencies through collaborations to advance Nutrition, Health and Physical Activity in schools and other mission areas.As Food Service Director with Liberty Public Schools, she spearheaded many initiatives that earned her national recognition. Under her leadership, the program earned the first District of Excellence Award in Missouri and the 56th district nationwide. Cynthia is a past recipient of the National FAME Award earning Silver for special achievement in management excellence.
