Previously, she served as the President and CEO of Allegheny Health Network (AHN), the health system fully owned by Highmark Health with 23,000+ employees, 2,500+ aligned physicians, 14 hospitals, and 300+ clinical locations, generating over $4B in annual revenue. After taking the helm in 2016, she orchestrated a return to profitability in 16 months, moving the system from a $32.6M in loss to a net profit of $51.1M. She led strategic cost reductions and improved profitability driven by a transformation to team-based care, consolidation of physical sites, and an aggressive move to value based models with considerable up-side risk. Prior to AHN, Cynthia served as the Chief Administrative Officer at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic for more than a decade. Under the Office of the Chief of Staff, she had operational and financial oversight of 23,000 employees and 25 clinical institutes at over 190 sites, while generating $5.5B in annual revenue. Cynthia was also part of the executive team that led the transition to be the first hospital system completely organized around patient needs with the formation of Institutes. Cynthia’s leadership and impact in the industry have been recognized with dozens of awards including Modern Healthcare’s “Top 25 Women Leaders” and “100 Most Influential People”, Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Top Women Leaders”, and Pittsburgh Business Times “Outstanding CEOs and Top Executives”.
