Kanascend is a Latina-owned consulting firm that provides fractional leadership services to organizations of various sizes and operational stages. Oversee communications and advocacy strategy, including branding, traditional and social media activities, as well as determining substantive policy advocacy and research priorities, planning and implementing legislative and administrative agency advocacy strategies.

Great Public Schools Now envisions a great public school for every student in Los Angeles. Guided by this vision, our mission is to invest in schools, organizations and initiatives that catalyze excellence in public education, convene leaders and uplift public understanding to advocate for great public schools.In my current role, I assist with the management of the GPSN Collective Action grant portfolio, which includes investments to support advocacy, communications and media work by non-profit organizations committed to ensuring all children have access to a great public school in Los Angeles. This position also supports our One Family LA initiative, which includes grant management of funds distributed to support children and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this role, I am also responsible for administering programs and special projects of the GPSN Policy, Advocacy and Communications team.Primary responsibilities for grant management and program administration include:• Reviewing grant proposals and drafting board investment recommendations for our Collective Action Initiative Grant Program• Drafting grant agreements across multiple programs and tracking grantee progress through their grant cycle including the submission of mid-year and final reports• Identifying potential grantees aligned with grant program guidelines• Leading special projects and programs in support of Policy, Advocacy and Communications team• Directly supporting GPSN communications through website management, social media content creation, and curation of education media

•Supported the President and Superintendent of IDEA Public Schools in the management of campus leaders.•Supported with district achievement goals and organizational strategy.•Led implementation of critical projects and initiatives across 44 schools in Texas.

•Led a new high school counseling program focused on holistic development of students via community service.•Helped coordinate a $60,000 fundraising effort to take more than 90% of 9th graders to visit east coast colleges.

•Ensured 100% of seniors applied to six colleges or more, resulting in 100% college acceptance for cohort.•100% of first graduating class enrolled into college and 96.1% persisted into spring semester of college.•Ensured 100% of families completed FAFSA/TASFA and submitted all financial aid documentation.•Created and monitored Academic Support Program for at-risk students failing two or more classes.

•Directed campus-wide multicultural programs, such as Celebrations of Culture and Religious Discovery Series.•Supervised 15 undergraduate students to provide peer-to-peer multicultural trainings.

•Assisted in the coordination of two engineering summer camps by organizing registration, orientation, departmental presentations, and engineering activities.•Hired and managed seven camp counselors to oversee 85 high school students engaged in summer camp sessions.

•Assisted advisor, Dr. Jeni Hart, with various STEM projects, including one focused on female faculty in STEM.•Transcribed interview and focus group data in preparation for major publication.

•Provided students with tools and guidance to successfully complete 100% college applications, résumés, essays, scholarship applications, and financial aid documents.•Organized and implemented SAT camps, college application workshops, FAFSA parent sessions, and bilingual (Spanish/English) presentations.

•Helped organize first Hispanic Youth Symposium in Fresno, CA which served over 200 Central Valley kids.•Mentored English Language Learners for Generation Green Program and recruited minority students to participate in college preparatory and motivational outreach programs.
