As a veterinarian, I oversee the health status of our flocks through regular site visits and monitoring the health status of our flocks (lab tests). I work closerly on regulatory aspects for our exports. Biosecurity, animal welfare, and antimicrobial use are direct focus areas in my daily work. Emergency preparedness (in order to be ready to respond and operate during a disease outbreak such as avian influenza) is also a key area for me. Quality greatly complements my veterinary role through structured documentation of our processes, verification (audit) activities, and actively pursuing continuous improvement objectives.

-Quality Assurance: Establishment of leading quality assurance programs for hatcheries and broiler breeder flocks, including HACCP recognition, biosecurity protocols and Salmonella monitoring/reduction program- Antibiotic Use: Involvement in antibiotic reduction strategies, including elmination of antibiotic use in broiler hatcheries-Animal Welfare: Responsible for ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards in hatcheries and breeder flocks; involved in the current review of the Canadian Poultry Code of Practice.- Veterinary/Disease control: active participation in "Ontario IBH working group", a multi-stakeholder committee that implemented targetted monitoring and vaccination strategy to effectively control "Inclusion Body Hepatitis", a costly disease commonly seen broiler chickens in Ontario.

1 year term as President of our local poultry veterinarian group. In 2003, CFIA implemented the "flock sheets" which impacted poultry veterinarians greatly. Worked with CFIA, OAPP, cgFarad and industry to implement a workable solution.
