When I start in each day, I'm looking not to make A difference, but the RIGHT difference. I'm a very experienced solution designer with years working among designers with specialties that lie outside a typical software engineer's comfort zone, including project controls, CAD, GIS, estimating, health & safety, engineering disciplines, and Admin Assistance (AAs are brave, flexible people with eclectic responsibilities and a matching skillset). Every conversation is an opportunity to learn something new, grasp real needs, or connect and merge the novel with knowledge and create the best holistic solution possible moving forward. Procedural is important, but doesn’t substitute for new ideas and directed curiosity (and occasionally, patience and a sense of humor) to drive innovation. NOT coding is sometimes best; I explore beyond my skillset to look for the best for my stakeholders.Love of learning (and tenacity) has led to multiple programming languages, practical design skills, to digging into the dark corners of poorly and undocumented APIs, to find cheap 3rd party solutions, to simplify processes to run 3 orders of magnitude faster, and to reverse engineer to make 3rd party tools shine through integration and expansion. My solutions include custom 3-tier apps running 10+ years with thousands of active users and critical sub-second setup automations that run thousands of times per day at application startup without clients even being aware of what they don't have to think about. I've done dozens of designs, and hundreds of upgrades. They've all given me joy (by the end, anyway) and I look forward eagerly to what challenges come next. When I’m not at the office, my mind is usually still working. I tend to problem-solve while I speed-walk or hike, read obsessively, wrestle with arcane role playing game mechanics issues, or try something new. I'm currently working on a remote monitoring project incorporating arduinos with an AWS-based automated alert system and reporting UI.
